New resin and figurines!

I recently found Smooth-On resin, which works very well. Since it is fairly clear, I’m able to add dye and metallic powders to make a variety of different colors. It took some experimentation, but I am very happy with the results. When sanded and coated with a glossy finish, the finished product looks like it is made of candy ;) The semi transparency added a lot of depth and made them more like tiny sculptures instead of toys. I appreciated not having to paint them because the slight differences in the grain of the metallic powder, and color gave them each more personality.

Each of these creatures is from an old, much loved Super Nintendo game called EarthBound ( also known as Mother 1, 2, and 3).

Here are various Starmen:

And here are some Mr. Saturns:

I used a matte finish on the Mr. Saturns to make them softer. The whiskers are made of stainless steel beading wire that I coated in Lumina, so they’re flexible like real whiskers. The bows on top were made of Sculpey SuperFlex.

Gods, I have to say that those Starmen and Mr Saturns are absolutely beautifully made. Very well done. I wish I could make something like that but I know I just don’t have the dexterity necessary for such subtle and magnificent artistic work like that.

    Hi there!
I just found your necklaces made with Lumina - AMAZING! I’m going to be stalking you on etsy to try and find one of my very own.

In the meantime, I’m really excited to to play with Lumina for my own artwork, but I can only find it in small bricks for alot of $. Any chance you’ve found a source to buy larger quantities, or bulk?

    Thanks - very inspiring work!

I noticed you make quite a few of your video game-inspired characters en masse. Do you sell them? My husband would love a Mr. Saturn and a Starman. Have you ever made a Bubble Monkey? I love your work!

I have recently started printing out enlarged Mother 3 sprites to adorn my wall and I too would love a Mr. Saturn if you ever decide to the sell them. Either way your work is divine, well done!
